About

A leading retail analytics and insights provider delivers critical reporting and performance insights to suppliers and retailers across Australia. The organisation processes large volumes of weekly sales, stock, product, promotion, and site data, providing trusted analytics that support supplier performance management, category reviews, and commercial decision-making.

As the business prepared for growth and the transition from a legacy processing environment, it required a modern cloud-based analytics platform capable of improving scalability, governance, automation, and operational efficiency.

Challenge

The organisation relied on a heavily manual reporting process involving the ingestion, validation, enrichment, and distribution of large retail datasets across multiple supplier and retailer groups. As data volumes and reporting complexity increased, the existing approach became increasingly difficult to scale.

Key challenges included:

  • Automating the ingestion and processing of large weekly retail datasets

  • Reducing manual validation, enrichment, and reporting effort

  • Improving data governance and auditability

  • Providing secure supplier-level access to reporting data

  • Establishing a scalable cloud-based analytics platform capable of supporting future growth

  • Ensuring continuity of service during migration from a legacy processing environment

Solution

AGER BI partnered with the client to design and deliver a modern Microsoft Fabric-based Retail Analytics Platform built on enterprise-grade architecture and governance principles.

Microsoft Fabric Analytics Platform: Implementation of a cloud-based analytics platform hosted within Microsoft Fabric, providing a unified environment for data ingestion, transformation, modelling, governance, and reporting.

Medallion Architecture: Design and implementation of a scalable Medallion Architecture comprising Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers to support data governance, quality assurance, traceability, and reporting performance.

Automated Data Integration:Development of automated pipelines to ingest, validate, cleanse, transform, and curate weekly retail sales, inventory, product, promotion, and site data from multiple source files into governed analytical datasets.

Enterprise Data Models: Creation of reporting-ready semantic models and enterprise data structures supporting supplier reporting, inventory analysis, sales performance monitoring, category management, and operational analytics.

Security and Governance: Implementation of role-based security, Row Level Security (RLS), supplier-specific reporting environments, and governed data access frameworks to ensure users only access authorised information.

Benefits

The new analytics platform transformed the organisation’s ability to process, manage, and distribute retail performance data at scale.

  • Improved Operational Efficiency: Automated ingestion, validation, transformation, and reporting processes significantly reduced manual effort and operational overhead.

  • Trusted Analytics Platform: A governed analytics environment established a single source of truth for supplier and retailer reporting, improving confidence in data quality and consistency.

  • Enhanced Data Governance: Structured data architecture, automated validation processes, security controls, and auditability improved governance and reporting reliability.

  • Secure Supplier Reporting: Supplier-specific reporting environments and Row Level Security ensured secure access to data while supporting scalable customer growth.

  • Future-Ready Foundation: The platform provides a scalable architecture capable of supporting additional suppliers, retailers, reporting requirements, and advanced analytics initiatives without requiring re-platforming.
